Braid for like almost anything. U can get away with braid casting in open water if the waters stained or murky. I only use mono for clear water if i'm casting in open water. So i try to get away with braid with all the chances i get. But i always have a rod spooled with flurocarbon just in case I go to a spot where the water is clear and doesn't have any mats, grass, or bullrush. Braid works well around fallen trees. So yea lakes in minnesota r weird like one part of a lake can be murky or stained and the other could be like crystal clear.
